Pythium ssp. is a water mold fungus that causes a variety of plant diseases, including damping-off, root rot, and cottony blight. This test identifies Pythium in water films, slabs, and roots. Early intervention avoids plant losses and costly system sterilization.
When Should I Do A Pythium ssp. Test?
Growers should consider Pythium ssp. testing:
- If root tips brown or slime appears in reservoirs
- Pre and post crop cycle sanitation audits
Pythium ssp. Test Example
- Finding: Pythium positive in nursery reservoir.
- Action: Dose 35% H₂O₂ at 2 ml/L, flush system, install UV‑C inline sterilizer, and lower solution temperature to 68°F
